CuVerro Antimicrobial Copper Surfaces
The Environmental Protection Agency approved the registration by the Copper Development Association for copper and copper alloys to make public health claims as being Antimicrobial. These claims acknowledge the fact that copper is inherently capable of killing bacteria* which can lead to infection. A number of different bacteria* have been tested including: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the widely known "super-bug" Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Other bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes and Legionella pneumophila, as well as viruses have been laboratory tested and have shown effectiveness but cannot make the noted human health claims at this time.

Global Brass and Copper, Inc. has obtained this registration through the Copper Development Association and under which GBC Metals LLC, d/b/a Olin Brass, Olin Brass Fineweld Tube, and A.J. Oster, LLC will soon provide registered products to their customers. These product will be sold under the CuVerroTM brand name. Unlike other claimed antimicrobial products, CuVerroTM Antimicrobial Copper Alloy Surfaces kill more than 99.9% of bacteria* within 2 hour, and deliver continuous and ongoing antibacterial action.
The label claims are as follows:

The use of a this product is a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices; users must continue to follow current infection control practices, including those practices related to cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces. This surface has been shown to reduce microbial contamination, but it does not necessarily prevent cross contamination.
